Rehabilitation and Welfare

In order to support the cancer patient rehabilitation program, ICA has created a broad spectrum of activities aimed at the well being of patients as well as their families.

ICA addresses diverse issues that patients confront; the psychological aspect, social welfare problems, ways of coping with side-effects, and how to improve their quality of life.

These are some of the rehabilitating services provided by ICA:

Continuing education courses and workshops for multidisciplinary professionals.

Seminars for cancer patients and their families (seminar for lung cancer patients and families, colorectal patients, breast cancer patients, lymphoma, leukemia, kidney and bladder cancer, laryngectomy and other patients) are held on a regular basis by ICA with hundreds of patients attending regularly.

Seminar and services devoted to enhancing quality of life among cancer patients and their families, discussing quality of life for those receiving treatment, familial coping, physical activity, sensuality and sexuality.

Sexuality workshops that include discussion about difficulties, attitudes and myths concerning sexuality and cancer, imparting relevant knowledge and presenting therapeutic options. Despite the sensitivity of the subject, body image and coping with treatment intervention are dealt with in pragmatic ways. Assisting and heightening awareness is helpful and essential.

Providing tutors for children with cancer who must keep up with their studies while confronting the disease.

Special support groups offering a wide range of activities such as: unique cooking and nutrition workshops,  social events, art workshops, body and soul workshops and more.  Working hand in hand with the patients, ICA implements  programs that try to provide support on  medical, social, psychological and emotional levels.

ICA built the Sir Charles Clore Hostel with the generous assistance of Sir Charles Clore. The Hostel houses patients from outlying areas receiving ambulatory care at central medical centers, avoiding the need for exhausting daily travel, while providing oncological nursing services, recreational and psychological support.

ICA played a major role in creating the first home hospice service for the terminally ill, to ease their suffering and operate a home hospice service, enabling patients to remain in warm familiar surroundings, while receiving 24-hour professional attention.

ICA has assisted in establishing ambulatory cancer treatment and hospitalization centers for children, a children's hospice and a hostel for young patients and their families at Rambam Medical Center.

ICA's Suzy Rehabilitation & Training Center holds seminars for multidisciplinary professionals. During 2007 as many as 820 events were held for professionals and patients alike.

The ICA presents and runs the "Look Good Feel Better" project. In this project beauticians, make-up artists, wig dressers and hairdressers volunteer their services. Female patients from all over the country receive cosmetic treatment and guidance on how to take care/adapt their hair or wigs so that they can look better and therefore feel better.

Seminar for patients with neuro- endocrinological tumors at Beit Mati. The lecturers discuss innovations, treatments, surgical treatments and clinical nutrition.

Joint seminar of ICA and the Israeli Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology on childhood and adolescent cancer.
