About Us

The Israel Cancer Association (ICA) was founded in 1952. More then 50 years of involvement and a proud record of achievement have earned ICA widespread recognition, both nationally and internationally, as a prime leader in the fight against cancer.

The fight against cancer is a matter of global concern. Each advance in knowledge, like a piece in a vast puzzle, brings us one step closer to completing the picture. Recognized as a formidable source of scientific innovation,Israel is an important contributor in this worldwide endeavor.

ICA set its goal to reduce the mortality and morbidity rates of cancer by waging an encompassing fight - by promoting research, prevention and early detection, improved methods of treatment and rehabilitation and quality of life. We support cancer patients throughout their ordeal and we strive to ensure their rights.

The ICA is in the forefront in the fight against cancer initiating and implementing essential long-term, nationwide programs and goals for the benefit of all cancer patients and their families, in every sector and in every locale throughout the country.

Due to ICA's endless efforts hospital wards have been renovated, medical equipment is continuously purchased, ICA finances professional posts in oncology medical centers and in the community, providing professional training for multidisciplinary staff and professional support for the patients. ICA provides information and assistance by virtue of the vigorous activities promoting updated treatment, the enhancement of patients' quality of life and guarding their rights.

ICA is Israel's largest, most prestigious reliable national volunteer organization, reaching every sector of the population - Jewish and Arab, child and adult, women and men. ICA activities are funded solely by private contributions making each donation evermore crucial. The late prof. Jerzy Einhorn - renowned world specialist who was a member of the Swedish Nobel prize committee assess Israel's status in the fight against cancer, reported: "the contribution made by ICA is critical for the quality of cancer control, cancer care and cancer research in Israel".

The Israel Cancer Association, like the country itself, owes its success entirely to
the efforts of dedicated volunteers, both in Israel and abroad, who devote themselves to their work with a determined singlemindedness of purpose. Pioneering new frontiers, whether clearing swamps, greening the desert or breaking new ground in science and technology, is an integral part of the Israel national character. This pioneering spirit, coupled with an inbred idealism, is the moving force behind the Israel Cancer Association. ICA was awarded the Presidential Award for Outstanding Volunteer Organization during Israel's Jubilee celebrations.

ICA works in collaboration with the health authorities but is financially independent. All of ICA's means are derived from public contributions. Nevertheless, ICA acts as a complimentary agent while serving as a catalyst for innovation. Throughout its existence, the ICA has worked continuously to make the fight against cancer a national priority - no simple matter in a nation beset by constant threats, economic hardships and social upheaval.

This independence enables us to operate according to strictly professional criteria, while maintaining a global national point of view and vision. We are proud of the fact that we ascertain that our administrative expenses constitute less than 10% of our budget.

The Israel Cancer Association, throughout its existence, has worked continuously to make the fight against cancer a national priority.

Prof. Eliezer Robinson, senior oncologist, Chairman of the Israel Cancer Association was President of the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) between the years 1998-2002. Miri Ziv, Director General of the Israel Cancer Association was appointed as a Member of the UICC Board of Directors in 2006 and in 2008 for additional period of 4 years.  ICA won the President's Award for an Outstanding Volunteering Organization during Israel's jubilee celebrations.

Professor Aaron Ciechanover, Noble Prize winner had said: "some odd years ago, as a young researcher and physician, I received assistance from Israel Cancer Association fellowships, and I learned from up close about the significant work that the Association does in promoting research, prevention, early detection, and improving treatment modalities for patients" .

ICA continues to be at the forefront of the fight against Cancer.
ICA continuously cares for the sick but supports the healthy, adheres to the young and old, to men and women of all sectors all over the country. ICA plans to continue in every sphere of activity- promoting research, prevention, early detection, updating treatment methods and rehabilitation.
